Finding Shelter 2023

Metal 1m - 2m

Artist Statment.
The artwork “Finding Shelter” in the forest explores the multifaceted concept of shelter, not only for human beings but also for the natural world.

The installation focus is on the impact of human intervention on the environment. Through the use of thin metal sheets arranged in a specific shape, the installation represents the space taken up by our homes, symbolically embedded into the ground.

The metal sheets themselves serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggle between human needs and the preservation of nature. Once a part of the natural world, they were transformed into a material that serves human desires with minimal regard for the consequences. The use of this material highlights the issue of how nature is being used and changed to cater to human needs, leading to deforestation, pollution, and the loss of biodiversity.

The artwork draws attention to the complex relationship between humans and nature, and prompts viewers to consider the impact of human actions on the environment. It emphasizes the importance of protecting and preserving the natural world for future generations, and calls for a balance to be struck between the needs of human society and the wellbeing of the planet. By acknowledging and addressing these issues, we can work towards ensuring a sustainable future for both ourselves and the natural world.
